Phnom Penh is prone to regular flooding that disrupts people’s livelihoods and adds to the vulnerability of those living in areas prone to flooding. Particularly, the informal settlements in the capital of Phnom Penh are vulnerable to the impacts of urban development projects such as real estates’ development that disrupt the environment and often cause flooding in informal settlements and elsewhere. Therefore, strengthening the capacity and use of the flood management planning tools at the Sangkat level in Phnom Penh, including predicting, managing, and mitigating the impact from floods are very crucial for the resiliency of the communities.
The project development objective (PDO) is to strengthen use of flood management planning tools at the Sangkat level in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Five Sangkats have been selected for the pilot study. They are Sangkat Dangkor, Sangkat Kbal Koh, Sangkat Prey Veng, Sangkat Sak Sampov and Sangkat Trapeang Krasang.
